Southern Methodist's loss to previously winless Tulane dropped the Mustangs to the middle of the pack in the West Division of the Conference USA standings. The 27-26 victory by the Green Wave moved Tulane's record to 1-5 on the year and tied them with SMU at 1-1 in conference play.
Both teams are chasing 6-1 Tulsa, who is already bowl eligible and ahead of the game with four C-USA games played, all of which they've won. Houston is in second place in the West, while Rice and UTEP sit in the bottom of the division with 0-3 marks in conference games.
Central Florida leads the East at 2-0 while East Carolina is right behind UCF at 3-1 in C-USA play.
