While a 2-3 record isn't impressive by any means, SMU's three losses came against good teams (Texas A&M, Baylor and TCU) which should make them a bit more justifiable. After a 17-0 win over UTEP, the Mustangs are in good shape in the Conference USA standings and can stay undefeated in conference play with a win over Tulane.
For the Green Wave, there's no justifying their 0-5 record. In each of the five losses. Tulane has been beat by double digits and the combined scoring is 212-45.
Whether it be offense or defense, the Green Wave have struggled in every aspect of their 2012 season and have a 15 game losing streak that began on Sept. 24, 2011, one week after a 49-10 victory over UAB.
So it's unsurprising that the Mustangs are large favorites for Saturday's game, despite their sub-.500 record. If Garrett Gilbert can avoid interceptions and be efficient, unlike most of his games so far in 2012, SMU should be able to extend Tulane's losing streak to 16.
