SMU Mustang Sterling Moore Saves New England's Season

SMU fans and alums can be proud of one of their former football players today. Sterling Moore, an undrafted free agent who was originally signed by the Oakland Raiders before signing with the New England Patriots, saved New England's season on Sunday, knocking the ball out of Lee Evans' hands in what would have been a go-ahead touchdown pass for the Ravens.

While this won't result in some great recruiting spike for SMU, it certainly doesn't hurt -- especially coming off a bowl game win and as the program prepares to move to the Big East.

Quotes from Bill Belichick regarding Moore are after the jump.

For those familiar with New England's head coach, this quote is about as typical as it gets from Belichick.

"[Moore] made some plays. Not perfect out there, but he competes hard and he's a tough kid. He's got good ball skills. He gets around the ball."

We'll see in two weeks how much of a role Moore plays in the Super Bowl as the Patriots look to extract revenge on the Giants for Super Bowl XLII.
