Earlier on Wednesday, reports had surfaced that SMU Mustangs head coach June Jones had accepted an offer to become the next "leader of men" at Arizona State Sun Devils. Per a report from Mark Berman of Fox26 out of Houston, this now does not seem to be the case.
"June Jone is not going to be our coach. The process continues," said Steve Patterson, ASU's Chief operating officer, in an interview with FOX 26 Sports.
Arizona State is still in search of a replacement head coach after terminating the contract of Dennis Erickson, who was 31-30 in five seasons as coach of the Sun Devils.
With Jones installed as head coach or not, the Mustangs are preparing for their upcoming bowl game with the Pitt Panthers on January 7th, 2012 in the BBVA Compass Bowl. June Jones has led the Mustangs to three consecutive bowls since taking over the reigns of the program.
