The SMU Mustangs are taking on the Pittsburgh Panthers in the BBVA Compass Bowl on Jan. 7. SMU will be making their third straight bowl game for only the second time in school history. SMU may have an advantage since Pitt will be down head coach Todd Graham who left to take the Arizona St. Sun Devils head coaching job. Pitt will be led by defensive coordinator Keith Patterson who has been named the interim head coach, however Graham is not the only coach to leave Pitt for Arizona State as offensive coordinator Mike Norvell resigned to take the same position at Arizona State.
Quarterbacks coach Todd Dodge is expected to call plays for Pitt in the bowl game. Dodge most recently was the head coach of North Texas Eagles from 2006-10 before he was fired. This will be the second straight Compass Bowl that Pitt will be coached by an interim head coach.
