The TCU Horned Frogs dropped their second straight game but unlike last week's triple overtime game against Texas Tech, Saturday's game wasn't even close.

TCU jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead before allowing 36 unanswered to Oklahoma State with the Horned Frogs' offense going 2-for-14 on third down. As one might expect, the fine gentlemen over at Frogs O' War weren't too ecstatic about the results when they took another look at the game for some good old fashioned postgame analysis.

Contributor Hawkeyed Frog called the Big-12 battle "an ugly, ugly game" and one that was "very reminiscent of the Iowa State game" from earlier in the year. Hawkeyed Frog did believe that the game could have went much differently though if the Horned Frogs were able to get it going early:

"TCU failed to capitalize on its early success. Two possessions in Okie State territory on each side of the Olabode interception of Lunt resulted in no points, as the Frogs went backwards after recovering a fumble on a kickoff return. Think the game turns out differently if TCU's lead was 21-0 or 20-0? Absolutely."

Jamie Plunkett went on to say that the Horned Frogs' offense was "the worst thing I've seen on a football field since I watched the Cowboys game last week."

Ouch. If you haven't heard enough, pay a visit to Frogs O' War for some more dedicated coverage of the Horned Frogs.

The TCU offense started fast and faded faster in blowout loss to Oklahoma State.

After jumping to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter of Saturday's game against Oklahoma State, the TCU Horned Frogs fell apart on both sides of the football, conceding 36 points without response in a 22-point loss. The TCU offense managed just 344 total yards, converted just two of fourteen third downs, and turned the ball over three times. Quarterback Trevone Boykin - filling in for suspended starter Casey Pachall - was just 21-for-40 for 185 yards passing.

On the defensive side of the ball, TCU allowed Oklahoma State halfback Joseph Randle to run 32 times for 126 yards and a touchdown. Oklahoma State quarterback Wes Lunt threw for 324 yards and a touchdown, as well.

At Frogs o' War, the offense came under fire:

TCU failed to capitalize on its early success. Two possessions in Okie State territory on each side of the Olabode interception of Lunt resulted in no points, as the Frogs went backwards after recovering a fumble on a kickoff return. Think the game turns out differently if TCU's lead was 21-0 or 20-0? Absolutely. As it was, the offense found rhythm about twice in the game, once with Boykin working the outside routes to man of the match Ladarius Brown and once driving late, only to be taken out of rhythm by a false start penalty (a persistent issue this season).

The loss drops TCU to 2-3 in their first Big 12 campaign, and 5-3 overall. The schedule only gets more difficult from here: TCU faces West Virginia, Kansas State, Texas, and Oklahoma in its final four games.

The first quarter belonged to the TCU Horned Frogs, but after that it was all Oklahoma State as they scored 36 unanswered points after falling into a 14-0 hole.

In the first quarter, Wes Lunt threw an interception to TCU's Elisha Olabode that was returned for a touchdown. The Horned Frogs continued the scoring with an 18-yard touchdown from Jarrett Boykin to LaDarius Brown that gave TCU a 14-0 lead.

The Cowboys chipped away in the remainder of the first half with three field goals from Quinn Sharp before taking over with two touchdowns in the third quarter. Jeremy Smith ran in from 1 yard before Lunt completed a 20-yard touchdown pass to Charlie Moore six minutes later to give OK State a 23-14 lead.

With his fourth and fifth successful field goals of the game, Sharp extended the lead to 29-14 in the fourth quarter. With just 1:22 remaining, the Cowboys added one final touchdown as Joseph Randle rushed in from 1 yard out.

Box Score Hero: It always feels weird to pick a kicker for any type of accolade, but Sharp was really strong for the Cowboys, nailing 5-of-5 field goal attempts and 3-of-3 extra points. He also made an impact as a punter, pinning the Horned Frogs deep with three punts that landed inside the 20. His value was further highlighted by the struggles of TCU's Jaden Oberkrom, who missed each of his two field goal attempts.

Rankings Ramifications: Neither team was ranked, but both received votes in the most recent AP Poll. With the win, the Cowboys may have the opportunity to sneak into the bottom of the rankings.

But Did They Cover? OK St. was favored by 7 points and managed to cover with a 12-point margin of victory.

Next Week's Schedule: TCU will next travel to face No. 19 West Virginia while Oklahoma State will travel to face the No. 3 Kansas State Wildcats.

TCU is leading Oklahoma State 14-9 at the half.

The TCU Horned Frogs' defense is having a good game keeping the Oklahoma St. Cowboys out of the end zone, and has forced limited the opposition to three field goals. After two quarters of play, TCU leads Oklahoma State 14-9.

In the second quarter, TCU's offense was held scoreless, but the defense was able to come up big and held Oklahoma State to a pair of field goals.

The field goals for Oklahoma State were from 34 and 30 yards out, meaning the Cowboys made it inside the Horned Frogs' 20-yard line but had to settle for field goals.

Horned Frogs quarterback Trevone Boykin has been inconsistent on the day, and he is just 11-for-22 with 107 yards passing. The rushing game is not doing much better with 69 total yards, but 46 of those came on one rush by B.J. Catalon.

TCU had a chance to put some points on the board, but Jaden Oberkrom missed a very long 52-yard field goal.

TCU put up a pair of touchdowns and lead Oklahoma State 14-3 after the first quarter.

The TCU Horned Frogs were able to get on the scoreboard first when Elisha Olabode intercepted Oklahoma State quarterback Wes Lunt, and returned it 11 yards for a touchdown. The TCU defense also forced a fumble later in the first quarter, and now lead 14-3.

After punting the ball on two straight possessions, the TCU offense was able to mount a six-play drive that went 83 yards. The drive ended with Trevone Boykin completing an 18-yard touchdown pass to LaDarius Brown.

Oklahoma State was able to get on the board when they converted a 22-yard field goal and made it a 14-3 TCU lead. On that Oklahoma State scoring drive, the TCU defense forced Oklahoma State to kick that field goal despite having 1st-and-goal at the 7-yard line.

The defense has been the key for TCU having a 14-3 lead. On offense Boykin has been playing well enough to keep TCU moving the ball, plus he has the game's only offensive touchdown.

Gary Patterson's Horned Frogs came up short against Texas Tech in Week 8, and will try to shut down an Oklahoma offense that has already put up 60+ points twice this season.

Unable to pull out a victory in triple overtime against Texas Tech last weekend, the TCU Horned Frogs will try to move above .500 in conference play on Saturday against Oklahoma State in a pivotal Big 12 battle.

The Horned Frogs churned out 516 yards of total offense and added 53 points to the scoreboard in Week 8, but still somehow came up short after a game-winning pass from Texas Tech quarterback Seth Doege clinched the game in the third overtime. Only now entering the heart of his team's 2012 schedule, TCU head coach Gary Patterson will be forced to play four consecutive ranked opponents to close out the year after squaring off with the Cowboys this weekend in Stillwater.

Fourth nationally at 45.7 points per game, the Cowboys completely dominated an Iowa State team that entered last weekend ranked No. 24 in college football. Freshman quarterback J.W. Walsh has been one of the biggest difference-makers through six games for the Cowboys with 1,467 yards and 10 touchdown passes, and the Denton, Texas, native will once again be a player to watch on Saturday due to his dual-threat ability.

TCU's redshirt freshman starting QB has been impressive since taking over the role a few weeks ago.

Trevone Boykin has grown more comfortable into his roll as TCU Horned Frogs starting quarterback, writes Stefan Stevenson of the Star-Telegram. Boykin was thrust into the role a few weeks ago in place of suspended starter Casey Paschall. The redshirt freshman has received the vote of confidence from his teammates:

"This is your huddle, your offense, and you take the ball and take charge," offensive lineman Eric Tausch said recalling the message to Boykin. "And he's done a fantastic job doing that."

Boykin was especially impressive in leading the Horned Frogs back from 10 points down last week to force overtime against Texas Tech, though TCU eventually lost. He and the Frogs (5-2, 2-2 Big 12) take on Oklahoma State (4-2, 2-1) on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT in a pivotal conference game. TCU head coach Gary Patterson was certainly impressed with Boykin last weekend:

"It was awesome. It doesn't matter if it's a parking lot or if it's the back yard. He likes to go play. He took some hits and is still ticking and going about his business."

Boykin has struggled with interceptions, however. He's thrown five picks, though two of them were deflected off of TCU receivers' hands. All of the picks have come in TCU's two losses.

With J.W. Walsh on the shelf, the Cowboys' two other QBs have been splitting snaps in preparation for their game with TCU on Saturday.

With Brandon Weeden now playing for the Cleveland Browns, Oklahoma State can't get any luck at the QB position in 2012.

Wes Lunt, a true freshman QB, won the job out of camp, but he went down with knee and ankle injuries in their third game against UL-Lafayette.

J.W. Walsh, a redshirt freshman from Denton, took over for Lunt, but he suffered a season-ending knee injury in their victory over Iowa State last week.

With Walsh out, most people assumed that Lunt would resume control of the Cowboys offense, but Mike Gundy is apparently hedging his bets in the run up to their game with TCU on Saturday. Lunt is splitting snaps with Clint Chelf, a junior, in practice this week.

However, regardless of whoever lines up under center, the Oklahoma State coaching staff is confident that they'll be able to perform (courtesy of Newson6.com):

"I'm confident we can win with either," offensive coordinator Todd Monken said. "We've got a good enough system and good enough players."

And if you look at the statistics Lunt and Walsh have put up this year, you can see Monken's point.

Walsh completed 66.2% of his passes for 1,467 yards, 10 TD's and 3 INT's. Lunt completed 68% of his passes for 588 yards, 4 TD's and 3 INT's.
