The Dallas Cowboys may have lost their game against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, but they put up a heck of a battle. They were a two-point conversion at the end of the game from going to overtime and the statistics, other than points, were almost all on the Cowboys side in a big way.

During the game, the Ravens got run over by the Cowboys to the tune of 227 rushing yards. That was a record number allowed for the Ravens, who were also plagued by defensive injuries as the game went along to key contributors including Ray Lewis and cornerback Lardarius Webb.

DeMarco Murray was the top contributor for the Cowboys on the night, putting up 93 yards on just 14 carries. Felix Jones had a great night for himself as well, putting up a slightly more modest 92 yards on 18 carries. Phillip Tanner and Lance Dunbar combined for the other 42 yards.

Dallas Cowboys running back Felix Jones had the best game of the early 2012 season on Sunday, during Dallas' Week 6 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Jones ran the ball 18 times for 92 yards, including an impressive 22 yard touchdown run in the first quarter, marking the first time Jones scored a touchdown since the first game of the 2011 season. More importantly, though, Jones showed an excellent burst, especially on his 22 yard touchdown run. Jones had looked lethargic in his limited playing time in recent weeks.

Jones credited his good game to his offensive line.

"I have to give it up to the offensive line, they did a great job of providing lanes for all the runners and we have to hit it full speed," Jones said. "It's disappointing (to lose), but we did a lot of great things. We fought back and we continued to fight until the last second."

Jones also added one reception for 13 yards in the 31-29 loss.

Jones could end up having a large role in Dallas' Week 7 contest against the Carolina Panthers. Starting running back DeMarco Murray injured his foot early in the second half against the Ravens, and even though X-rays came back negative, the extent of Murray's injury is still unknown.

Baltimore Ravens cornerback Cary Williams has some simple advice for Dez Bryant. Williams told USA Today after Baltimore's 31-29 victory over Dallas that Bryant needs to "be a man," after Bryant said that Williams interfered with Bryant during Dallas' failed two-point conversion late in the game.

"He needs to step up and be a man. You can't be a baby about stuff. You've got to man up. It's one on one. Mano-a-mano. I got you. Sometimes you're going to win. Sometimes you're going to lose.

"You've just got to be a man and accept responsibility, give credit where credit is due. If it was me I'd say, you know what, he made the play and I didn't. Bottom line. Don't complain and look for a flag, man."

If the Cowboys and Bryant had converted the two-point play, the game would have been ticketed for overtime. Instead, the Cowboys were forced to kick and recover an onside kick. Unfortunately for the Cowboys, Dan Bailey missed what would have been a game-winning 51 yard field goal with one second left on the clock.

Bryant was targeted 15 times by Tony Romo, and finished with a game-high 13 receptions. Bryant did catch two touchdown passes and racked up 95 yards in the loss. Through Dallas' first five games, Bryant has 34 receptions for 364 yards and two touchdowns.

Dallas will look to rebound next Sunday when the Cowboys take on Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers.

The Dallas Cowboys suffered a scare during Sunday's 31-29 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, as starting running back DeMarco Murray suffered a foot injury early in the second half.

Fortunately for Murray and the Cowboys, X-rays came back negative on Murray's foot, and it is believed that the running back only suffered a strain. Murray will undergo an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of the injury.

Murray finished the game with 93 yards on 14 carries -- most of which coming in the first half. Felix Jones filled in for Murray, rushing 18 times for 92 yards and one touchdown.

Cowboys linebacker Sean Lissemore suffered a right ankle injury during Dallas' loss on Sunday. X-rays came back negative on the ankle, but Lissemore believes he suffered a high ankle sprain, and more tests will come Monday.

Jason Garrett and his coaching staff will hope that Murray and Lissemore will be available next weekend, when the Cowboys head to Carolina to take on the Panthers.

A closer look at the biggest contributing factors to the Cowboys heart-breaking loss on Sunday.

The Cowboys fell to 2-3 and could be standing at the bottom of the NFC East after a gut-wrenching loss to the Ravens on Sunday. During some points of the game, Dallas looked like they could play with the big boys of the NFL, but the same problems that they have been having for what seems like forever reared their heads again.

There isn't much joy when your team loses in the fashion the Cowboys did, but there are some moral victories to be had. Dallas appears to have solved some of their issues along the offensive line; this hasn't been a line capable of being physical and driving the defensive line back, but they did on Sunday. They carved the Ravens up to the tune of 227 yards, averaging 5.4 yards per carry. If the Cowboys can run the football like that against physical teams like the Ravens, they have an important tool going forward.

Dez Bryant had a fantastic game against the Ravens. He didn't make the mental errors and mistakes we saw him make against the Bears. I know he is going to get blasted for not converting the two-point conversion at the end of the game, but Bryant made plays the entire game. If not for him, the Cowboys would have not been in the position to win at all.

Putting all that aside, let's get into the four keys that caused Dallas to lose to Baltimore:

Penalties

The Cowboys have been one of the most penalized teams in the NFL the past couple of years. This was an issue that dates back to when Wade Phillips was the head coach. Dallas was penalized 13 times for 82 yards against the Ravens.

It's not only the penalties that the Cowboys are committing; it's the type of penalties. Doug Free continues to have his issues with false starts. The holding penalties against Tyron Smith in my opinion were ticky-tacky, but you cannot continue to make these types of mistakes in NFL football games. Most of the time, you will lose if you are penalized more than the other team.

On the other side of this, some of the penalties called against the Cowboys today were terrible calls. Now usually I don't complain about penalties or officials publicly, but Dallas got hosed today on some of the calls.

The pass interference call on Morris Claiborne was one of the worst calls I have ever seen in the secondary this year. Claiborne went up for the pass intended for wide receiver Torrey Smith, but Claiborne was looking back for the football the entire time. Claiborne never interfered with Smith, but there was incidental contact. That should have either been a push off on Smith or a non-call.

Perhaps the worst call of the day (even Brian Billick said the call was terrible during the broadcast) was the illegal chop block called on Felix Jones. Felix engaged one defender and went low for the block. This is something that running backs do basically every time they block on a passing play.

The penalties are hurting the Cowboys, but so are the officials.

Tony Romo's Interception

I have been a big defender of Tony Romo, but my patience is beginning to wear thin. Romo played a very good game outside of one play. I do want to be clear here before I move on, Tony Romo is not the reason the Dallas Cowboys lost the game to the Ravens.

Romo was labeled a "gunslinger" early into his career, but we are beginning to see some of that come back into Romo's game. He hasn't been very careful with the football recently. Now there have been a lot of mistakes made by his offensive line and wide receivers, so some of his turnovers should be attributed to them, but Romo has also made some costly mistakes that were all on him.

It's a tie game and the Cowboys have a third and ten at the Baltimore 35. This is where Romo needs to be more careful with the football. Romo sails the ball past Kevin Ogletree and cornerback Cary Williams intercepts the football. The Ravens drove down the field and Joe Flacco connected with Torrey Smith to put the Ravens up 17-10. That interception swung the game and momentum back to the Ravens.

Jacoby Jones 108-Yard Kickoff Return

Special teams coach Joe DeCamillis should probably be let go after this season. Some people around the NFL claim that DeCamillis is head coach material, but I am not so sure about that. Over the years, the Cowboys have allowed way too many big plays in the special teams department. Think about every tough loss in the past three seasons. I guarantee you that you will remember one play on special teams that allowed the opposing team to take control of the game.

Clock Management/Game Management

This is all on Jason Garrett. For the most part, Garrett actually called a very good football game against the Ravens. He was able to get physical and run the football all game long. He also dialed up some nice plays in the passing game, but he didn't take enough shots down the field in my opinion.

After the Cowboys recovered the onside kick, Dallas had around 30 seconds left and one timeout. The deep play down the field to Ogletree led to a pass interference penalty that set the Cowboys up for a great opportunity to get a few more yards to make a game winning field goal opportunity easier.

Garrett had Dez Bryant run a shallow pattern that resulted in a gain of one yard. This was actually a good play call, but I believe that Romo should have led Bryant more in his route. Had he done that, Dez would have caught the ball in stride and may have been able to break some tackles.

Instead of getting one more play off, the Cowboys are forced to take their last timeout and have Dan Bailey kick a 51-yard field goal. Keep in mind that there were 19 seconds left, but the Cowboys couldn't get the play in for Romo to run. Inexcusable in my opinion, you need to get up there and get another play off.

This is where clock and game management come into play. I place all of the blame on Jason Garrett here because he is the head coach and calls the plays for the offense.

Had Garrett called up a better play designed to pickup more yards, the Cowboys could have been a shorter field goal attempt for kicker Dan Bailey. The Cowboys have had issues with this dating back to last year. You have to wonder if Garrett has learned anything about these type of issues as a head coach and play caller.

X-rays came back negative on DeMarco Murray's injured foot, as the Dallas running back avoided serious injury.

DeMarco Murray left Sunday's game shortly after the start of the second half when the Dallas Cowboys' running back tested an injured foot on one carry, then quickly left the game, unable to return.

Luckily for the Cowboys the injury isn't serious, as CBS Sports report that Murray suffered a foot strain, and does not have a fracture. While Felix Jones performed well in Murray's absence, the lack of a second running back to effectively spell him with may have been the difference in the Cowboys' close loss.

Sunday was the best game of DeMarco Murray's 2012 season as he carried the ball 14 times for 93 yards, an impressive 6.6 yards per carry. There is no word on the seriousness of his foot strain at this time. These injuries can range anywhere from a missed practice or two, or lasting several games depending on their severity. Either way, Jason Garrett's life is a lot easier with Murray on the field, and a broken foot would have derailed their year.

Dallas' comeback attempt fell short in Baltimore, as the Cowboys fell 31-29 to the Ravens.

The Ravens hung on to defeat the Dallas Cowboys, 31-29, as a Dan Bailey game-winning field goal sailed left to preserve the Baltimore win. The Cowboys put together an offensive flurry in the final two minutes, scoring a touchdown and recovering an onside kick. On their final possession, a pass interference call moved the Cowboys into field goal range but some curious clock management forced them to settle for the 51-yard attempt by Bailey. The field goal would have tied his career long, but it was wide left almost as soon as it left his foot.

Despite an injury to starter DeMarco Murray, the Cowboys consistently pounded the ball on the ground against a vulnerable Baltimore defense. The Ravens rush defense was lit up by Jamaal Charles last week, and a stable of Dallas rushers found constant running lanes in Week 6. Felix Jones was the biggest beneficiary, splitting carries with Murray in the first half and then taking over in the second half. Dallas went to the ground right away, running it down the throats of Baltimore on their opening possession, which ended with 22-yard scamper down the left sideline by Jones. An animated gif of the play:

As a team, the Cowboys finished with 227 yards on the ground. Murray had 93 yards rushing before leaving with the injury, and Jones added 92 yards on 18 carries.

The biggest play of the second half for the Ravens may have occurred on special teams, as Jacoby Jones took a 108-yard kickoff return to the house, giving Baltimore their first double-digit lead of the game. Dallas controlled the momentum and the ball for most of the second half, but the return by Jones was a huge blow. The speedy wideout burst to the right sideline and was never touched on his way to the end zone.

The Baltimore offense was quiet for most of second half, with the return by Jones and a stout Dallas defense keeping them off the field. But with a one-point lead, and a little over eight minutes to play, Joe Flacco moved the offense on a 10-play, 73-yard scoring drive that pushed the lead to eight with less than five minutes to play. The Ravens continued to go no-huddle on the drive, and Flacco consistently found his receivers, hitting Anquan Boldin on two big back-to-back plays. Ray Rice capped the drive with a one-yard touchdown.

Tony Romo and the Cowboys responded, however, marching down the field to try and even it up with under two minutes to play. The drive was in jeopardy on two separate fourth-and-10 situations, but Romo found reliable tight end Jason Witten both times to keep the chains moving. The Cowboys pulled within two when, for the second time, Romo fired one at the back shoulder of Dez Bryant. The second-year wideout scored his first touchdown of the season on almost the exact same play earlier in the second half.

At 31-29, the Cowboys still needed a two-point conversion. Jason Garrett went back to the same play, but this time, Bryant could not hold on to the ball from Romo. The pass hit him right in the hands but he could not control it as he went to the ground, preserving the narrow Baltimore lead.

It looked like Bryant might get a measure of redemption from the dropped pass, as the Cowboys recovered the ensuing onside kick. But Bailey's attempt was off the mark, and the Ravens held on to improve to 5-1.

Fantasy stud

Dez Bryant finished the day with 13 catches for 93 yards and two touchdowns, an impressive outing for fantasy owners. Unfortunately, Cowboys fans will likely dwell on the dropped two-point conversion.

But did they cover?

The late Dallas touchdown ensured that the Ravens did not cover the 3.5-point spread.

Injury info

The biggest injury was the foot problem that sprung up for DeMarco Murray. The dynamic rusher was on the bench for the second half, and his status going forward is still unknown. One of the Ravens top cornerbacks, Lardarius Webb, badly bruised his knee when he collided with Dez Bryant. He did not return.

Up Next

The Ravens will head to Houston to face the Texans in what could be a battle between the AFC's two best teams. The Cowboys stay on the road and will face at Panthers team that's coming off a bye.

The Dallas Cowboys played the second half of Sunday's game against the Ravens without running back DeMarco Murray.

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray did not start the second half against the Baltimore Ravens as he was dealing with a foot injury. However, after testing it for one carry he then left the game. He was touch-and-go for the second half and didn't see much action.

In a game marred with injury, Murray is the next in a long line of starters who have left the game due to being banged up. Ravens CB Lardarius Webb was forced out early with a sprained knee, only to be joined by fellow defensive starter Haloti Ngata, who has since returned to the field. Shortly before the half it was the Cowboys dealing with injuries of their own, as cornerback Morris Claiborne was hurt on an endzone pass while jockeying for position with receiver Torrey Smith.
