Here's a topic that will need to be talked about a lot, and soon: How do you make room for Jurickson Profar?
↵
With Texas having plenty worth watching on the field for the next couple of months, it's a topic that can wait, but Rob Neyer didn't wait. He talked about it today at Baseball Nation.
↵
If there's anything I cautiously disagree with him on, it's his confidence that Leonys Martin will fill in for Josh Hamilton. I am not entirely positive the Rangers are so sure Martin isn't a AAAA player.
↵
What I heartily agree with him on is there's no need to make room for Profar immediately, and it's more likely than not that the Rangers don't make a huge move involving trading Elvis Andrus or Adrian Beltre or Ian Kinsler, or dumping Michael Young, or converting someone to a new position this offseason.
↵

The Oakland A's are coming on strong in the American League West, blowing past the Angels this week to move within three games of the Texas Rangers for first place. Oakland has now won nine consecutive games and controls the first wild card spot in the American league. they are also making the Rangers sweat a little in the West.

Texas (79-54) and Oakland (76-57) will play seven times in the season's final 10 games. Those games could now decide the divisional race after Oakland took two in a row from Tampa Bay before sweeping Cleveland in four games and Boston in three. All told, Oakland has won 15 of its last 17 games.

Oakland is now two full games ahead of the Orioles for the first wild card spot. Baltimore sits 1.5 games ahead of the Rays and two ahead of both the Tigers and White Sox. The Angels are also in the wild card mix 3.5 games behind Baltimore and 8.5 behind Texas in the division.

Jurickson Profar homered in his first major league at-bat as the Texas Rangers beat the Cleveland Indians 8-3 on Sunday.

The 19-year-old blasted a 2-1 fastball thrown by Indians pitcher Zach McAllister in the third inning in his debut in the majors. Profar becomes the first player born in 1993 to get a hit in a major league game. He ended the game with two hits.

Josh Hamilton, Adrian Beltre and David Murphy lit up the fifth inning, each recording a solo shot.

The Rangers matched their best record through 133 games with 79 wins set in 1999.

In their last 35 games, the Indians stand at 6-29.

Jurickson Profar began his Major League career in dramatic fashion on Sunday afternoon, going deep in his first at-bat in the big leagues.
↵
He took a 2-1 fastball from Indians starter Zach McAllister twenty rows deep into the right-field stands at Progressive Field, as the ball was gone as soon as it left the bat (video of the solo shot here).
↵
Profar was considered untouchable at the trade deadline, and he appears to already be making an impact at the big league level. The homer was the first ever hit in Major League Baseball by a player born in 1993.
↵
The HR was the start of a four-run third-inning rally by Texas. The Rangers now lead the Tribe 4-2 as they try to clinch the series in Cleveland.
↵

In the rubber match of their three-game series with the Cleveland Indians, the Texas Rangers will start September call-up Jurickson Profar at second base. All-Star Ian Kinsler, who was in the original lineup and batting leadoff, was a late scratch. Profar will bat ninth, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Profar, 19, is one of the best prospects in baseball. He batted .281 with a .368 on-base percentage at AA Frisco this season with 14 home runs and 16 stolen bases in 480 at-bats. Kinsler played nine innings Saturday and was slated to be in the lineup until about a half-hour before the game, so it's doubtful his injury is too serious, but it's worth keeping an eye on into next week.
The 2012 season hasn't been kind to Derek Holland, but he's turned it around of late, winning his last two starts. The Texas Rangers have gotten wins in his last four starts, and they hope to keep that momentum going in order to win the three-game weekend series against the Cleveland Indians.

The Rangers and Indians have played two close, low-scoring games — just the type of games we're used to seeing at Progressive Field, the ninth-best park for pitchers in the majors — and Sunday's matchup should be no different. Holland's on a hot streak and the Indians' starter, Zach McAllister, has a 3.82 season ERA.

The Rangers would love to come away from this game with a win, with the Athletics simply not going away in the playoff hunt. The Rangers have a three-game lead on their foes from the bay, but there's no hotter team in the league than the A's, winners of their last eight.

The Texas Rangers were unable to overcome a four-run deficit in the first inning, losing to the Cleveland Indians 4-3 on Saturday night.

Scott Feldman pitched six innings, allowing four runs on six hits and striking out five. It was the damage done in the first inning off an opening walk and four straight hits that doomed the game from the start.

The Rangers had runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings and threatened in the top of the ninth, yet were unable to put together a sustained rally against Jeanmar Gomez and the Indians relieving pitchers.

Adrian Beltre had yet another big game, going 3-for-4 with a double, home run and single, raising his average on the season to .319. Josh Hamilton was 0-for-4 with two strikeouts on the night.

David Murphy was the only other Rangers batter with multiple hits in the game, going 2-for-3 with a home run and a single.

The Texas Rangers go in to Progressive Field to face the Cleveland Indians on Saturday with their eye on widening the gap with the Oakland A's in the AL West. Texas sends Scott Feldman to the bump, who is looking to rebound from a rough August. Feldman is 0-4 with a 6.45 ERA in his last four starts and 2-4 on the road this season with a 6.21 ERA.

The Rangers held off a Cleveland comeback Friday night to win the first game of the three game series, 5-3. Ryan Dempster allowed only two hits, one walk and an unearned run through six innings. The win kept the Rangers lead over the surging A's, winners of seven in a row, at four games heading in to the final month of the season.

Indians right hander Jeanmar Gomez takes the bump for the injured Roberto Hernandez. Gomez is 4-7 on the season with a 5.11 ERA. First pitch from Progressive Field is 6:05 CT.
