Washington gave up a lot to get RG3, but if they can acquire some weapons for him, he could make the NFC East tougher than it already is.

Redskins owner Daniel Synder has become the butt of many jokes, but I have to give him some credit for doing a much better job of building his football team recently. Brian Orakpo, Perry Riley, Trent Williams, Ryan Kerrigan, Leonard Hankerson and Roy Helu are all off to promising starts early into their careers and look like they will be a big part of the Redskins' future.

Even though they have finished 6-10 and 5-11 the last two years, head coach Mike Shanahan is a good football coach with an eye for talent. It's going to take him time, but Shanahan could build a contender out of the Redskins if he is allowed to put his touch on the personnel. Defensive coordinator Jim Haslett already has a pretty decent defense and the Redskins are still adjusting with the move to the 3-4 defense.

What Shanahan and the Redskins have lacked is a franchise quarterback. They acquired Donovan McNabb hoping he would be the man for the job, but he was over the hill before he even arrived in Washington. In 2011, Shanahan went with a competition between Rex Grossman and John Beck, but neither quarterback appeared to be the type Shanahan needs to run his West Coast offense.

With that in mind, the Redskins went out and made a blockbuster trade with the St. Louis Rams. Washington traded up from the sixth overall pick to the second overall pick to get Baylor sensation Robert Griffin III, giving up their 2013 and 2014 first-round picks, but also gave up their 2012 second-round pick. Is it a lot to give up for one player? Yes, but franchise quarterbacks are hard to come by.

Robert Griffin III

I remember watching Baylor back in 2008 and they had this freshman quarterback named "RG3". Even then, Griffin had that wow factor you look for in quarterback and I knew he was going to be a big star in college football.

After missing the entire 2009 season with an ACL injury, Griffin came back in 2010 even better than he was prior to the injury, capping off his career with a Heisman Trophy in 2011.

He isn't very big (6'2, 223), but he can continue to add more to his frame as he ages. Griffin is extremely athletic and can make plays with his legs, but he throws a great deep ball due to his elite arm strength. RG3 is going to be a perfect fit with Shanahan and the West Coast offense.

A division full of good quarterbacks just added another one, and the Cowboys will have their hands full with the quarterback play in the NFC East.

Josh LeRibeus

Josh Leribeus, OG, selected by the Redskins with the 71st pick in the 3rd round- HD (via HollyMartins)

LeRibeus plays with a mean streak, but doesn't necessarily have prototypical size (6'2, 311) for a guard. I didn't focus on him too much in college, but his scouting reports had him pegged as a fifth-round pick with upside. Shanahan runs a zone blocking scheme and Leribeus is perfect for that because he is athletic enough to get out and block in space.

It may have been a reach in the third-round, but there is nothing wrong with getting a offensive lineman to protect the franchise quarterback. LeRibeus has enough upside to become a starting guard in the NFL, so kudos to the Redskins for beefing up their offensive line.

Kirk Cousins

I am not sure that drafting another quarterback in the fourth-round was a smart decision. With the Redskins having holes at some other positions, I would have addressed one of those needs with this pick. I understand that it's a smart tactic to draft quarterbacks and develop them, but you just drafted a franchise quarterback in RG3.

Unless Cousins turns into a Kevin Kolb type of situation where the Redskins can flip him for a high draft pick, then I consider this a bad pick for them.

Keenan Robinson

Washington Redskins Select Keenan Robinson with the 119th Pick (NFL Draft 2012) (via CapitolPunishmentDMV)

This was a great pickup for the Redskins in the fourth-round of the draft. In the 3-4 defense you need to have athletic and versatile linebackers, and Robinson offers both. He will probably start off on the inside, but he has the versatility to line up as a pass rusher on the outside.

Robinson played in a hybrid defense at Texas where he was lined up all over the field. He has the speed and athleticism to cover tight ends and wide receivers.

Brian Orakpo, Perry Riley, Ryan Kerrigan and Robinson give the Redskins one of the most talented grouping of linebackers in the NFL.

Conclusion

The Redskins finally landed a franchise quarterback that has superstar potential written all over him, but I do wonder if they will have trouble adding weapons for him with no first-round picks the next two years. They brought in Pierre Garcon, but I don't know if that will be enough for Griffin to air the football out in Washington.

The rest of their draft was solid and they brought in good football players, but that should be credited to Shanahan. If they can bring in more wide receivers and ever find the right running back for the patented zone blocking running game that Shanahan loves, then the Redskins could become a very good football team sooner rather than later.

The Eagles have had their share of hits and misses under Andy Reid, but it looks like 2012 could end up being a big year for Philadelphia. The second in a series breaking down the draft classes of the Cowboys NFC East rivals.

As we continue to breakdown what our division rivals accomplished in the draft, our focus moves onto the Philadelphia Eagles. Head coach Andy Reid pretty much runs the show in Philly and basically has the final say on any football decisions. In my opinion, Reid is a good head coach who has a good eye for talent.

What I like about him the most is that he knows what type of players he wants for his system and he will go out and get them. Reid is a firm believer in drafting heavy on the offensive and defensive line, something I would like to see the Cowboys do more of.

Some of the Eagles' recent successful draft picks include LeSean McCoy, DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, Brent Celek and Trent Cole. There have also been some busts that include Shawn Andrews, Mike Patterson, Brodrick Bunkley and Winston Justice. 2010 draft picks Brandon Graham and Nate Allen still have yet to prove that they were worth high draft picks, and 2011 draft pick Danny Watkins didn't have a very good rookie season.

The draft isn't an exact science and nobody is perfect. Reid doesn't exactly have a perfect track record in the draft, but nobody can hit on every draft pick.

However, this year, I think the Eagles came away with one of the best classes in the draft. They landed premier talents across the board and stood true to their draft board. Let's take a closer look at their 2012 draft class:

Fletcher Cox

Philadelphia traded a fourth-round and sixth-round pick to the Seattle Seahawks in order to move up for Cox. At 6'4, 298, he has the size to be a dominant player. He has a long and lean muscular frame that can still continue to grow. Cox can use his long arms to disengage from blockers and against offensive lineman when rushing the passer.

Cox is a very good athlete who has a tremendous upside, but he also played in the SEC. Playing in the best conference in college football definitely help prepared him for the NFL. With the addition of Cox, the Eagles defensive line is going to be a handful. Expect to see the Eagles play Cox all over the defensive line as a rookie because he has the versatility to play anywhere in a 4-3 defense.

Mychal Kendricks

One area that the Eagles have not spent a lot of draft picks on is the linebacker position. In 2012, they landed one of the best linebackers in the draft with the selection of Mychal Kendricks in the second-round. Kendricks blew up the NFL Combine when he ran a 4.47 40 yard dash and had a 39.5 inch vertical jump.

He isn't the biggest linebacker (5'11, 239), but he has a stocky frame. The 2011 Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year was extremely productive in college. His career numbers include 259 tackles, 36.5 tackles for loss, 13.5 sacks, 7 fumble recoveries and 4 interceptions.

He has the range to cover tight ends and running backs, but he is a sideline to sideline player that will rack up tackles. The Eagles have lacked a playmaker at linebacker, so this was a fantastic pick for them. Kendricks is a great athlete that should become a big part of the Eagles' defense for a very long time.

Vinny Curry

When I was looking at potential pass rushers for the Cowboys, Curry was a name that kept coming up. Once considered a fringe first-round prospect, Curry fell almost out of the second-round before the Eagles drafted him. This was a selection that Andy Reid used in order to add further depth to his defensive line. Instead of focusing on other needs, the Eagles clearly took the best player available and could not pass on a talent like Curry that late into the draft.

Nick Foles

Andy Reid loved Kevin Kolb so much that he drafted him to become the future at the quarterback position. Kolb never panned out for the Eagles, but Reid turned him into a great trade piece that brought the Eagles cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a second-round pick.

Foles is a very talented quarterback that didn't necessarily have great success at the University of Arizona, but he has a strong arm and is a great developmental prospect. I believe that you should always draft a quarterback in the draft because you can always turn them into the next Kevin Kolb. The Eagles are thinking about the future of the quarterback position and they always have a talented prospect waiting to takeover.

Brandon Boykin

The Eagles landed another premier talent when they picked up Boykin in the fourth-round. Boykin was considered to be a late first-round or early second-round pick, but he fell in the draft due to his lack of size and injury concerns. He is a physical cornerback with great athleticism and footwork. Boykin possesses great coverage skills because he is fast, but he also has very smooth hips when getting out of his backpedal.

You can never have too many cornerbacks and the addition of Boykin was a good move by the Eagles. Boykin should play a lot in the slot during his rookie season because he is actually a very physical player, but he must improve on his tackling in order to become a more complete player.

Conclusion

The Eagles also had one of the best undrafted free agent classes this year. Chris Polk, Cliff Harris and Chase Ford all have the talent to make an NFL roster. Overall this was a great haul for the Eagles, who were already one of the most talented teams in the NFL. I hate to admit it, but the Eagles just got a whole lot tougher to beat.

The first in our series breaking down the draft classes of the Cowboys divisional rivals. Giants GM Jerry Reese has a proven eye for talent, and he may have unearthed a few more solid contributors in 2012.

One of the reasons the New York Giants are always a Super Bowl contender is their ability to draft well. Looking over their current roster, the Giants have built a good football team primarily around the draft and will then plug certain holes in free agency.

The man who can be credited for most of the success in New York is their general manager, Jerry Reese. Since becoming the general manager in 2007, Reese has successfully used the draft to build his football team. Look at the big names Reese has drafted since he took over back in 2007:

Steve Smith WR 2nd round

Kevin Boss TE 5th round

Ahmad Bradshaw RB 7th round

Kenny Phillips 1st round

Terrell Thomas 2nd round

Mario Manningham 3rd round

Hakeem Nicks 1st round

Jason Pierre-Paul 1st round

Linval Joseph 2nd round

The jury is still out on 2011 draft picks Prince Amukamara and Marvin Austin, but both had first-round talent and are prime examples of Reese believing in taking the best player available. In my opinion, the Giants are one of the most successful teams in the draft because they have a plan set in place and have a great general manager. I have also noticed that they like to take players from larger, more established schools and I wish the Cowboys would do that more often.

Reese has also made some great decisions outside of the draft. Instead of re-signing Steve Smith, he opted to part ways and that left an opening for Victor Cruz to have his breakout campaign last year. Entering this year's draft, Reese had some decisions to make when he lost some key players in free agency.

David Wilson

Reese made another great decision by letting Brandon Jacobs walk and deciding to draft a running back in the draft. Towards the end of the first-round, the Giants could have went in a variety of directions, but they chose to find Ahmad Bradshaw a partner in crime.

Wilson has fresh legs due to the fact he only started one season for Virginia Tech, but don't be fooled into thinking that it was due to a lack of talent. He was stuck behind great running backs such as Ryan Williams and Darren Evans. Wilson rushed for 1,709 yards and had 9 TD in 2011 for Virginia Tech as the featured running back. He can also play special teams, an area the Giants wanted to upgrade at. Wilson can return punts and kicks, so he may be utilized there early on during his rookie season.

The Giants list him at 5'9, 209 pounds, and that is great size for a running back. Wilson is a very good athlete who is a very smooth runner. He can accelerate and hit the hole very quickly, but he can also be a battering ram that doesn't want to go down. Wilson is also a good receiving threat out of the backfield and should continue to improve in that area. His combination of explosive running and physicality will be the perfect fit in the Giants offense.

He does have some issues fumbling the football, but so did Tiki Barber during his time in New York. Wilson was an excellent draft pick in my opinion and should be a very good football player for the Giants. This could be another home run draft pick by Jerry Reese in the first-round of the draft.

Ultimate David Wilson Highlights (2012 Draft 32nd Pick - New York Giants) (via TheVikingsworld2011)

Rueben Randle

Reese faced another decision when it came to wide receiver Mario Manningham. It was rumored Reese never even tried to re-sign Manningham, instead opting to look for his replacement in the draft. Manningham signed a two-year deal with the 49ers that was worth $7.375 million.

Randle is another example of Reese taking the best player available, as he possibly landed a draft day steal with the former LSU wide receiver. Many considered Randle to be a first-round talent, so this was another great haul for Reese and the Giants.

Randle was held back by some suspect quarterback play and talented wide receivers in front of him on the roster. He was a consistent deep threat and made a lot of big plays during his career at LSU. His numbers aren't eye popping, but when he was on the field he made plays. In his junior season Randle put up 53 receptions, 917 yards and 8 TD. Instead of coming back for his senior season he opted to enter the 2012 NFL Draft and he ended up making a great decision because of where he ended up.

Listed at 6'2,208 pounds, he has the size to become a big target for Eli Manning. He didn't have a great combine workout, and that probably led to his fall in the draft. His game tape is very convincing and that is probably what sold the Giants on taking him.

He will have a great opportunity to produce in his rookie season. Hakeem Nicks suffered a broken foot and could miss the beginning of the season. If Randle can continue to grow as a route runner, he could become a productive player early on in his career.

Jayron Hosley

The Giants went back to Virginia Tech with their third-round pick and selected cornerback Jayron Hosley. Hosley was a prospect that I had scouted for a very long time due to his ability to make plays on the football. Jerry Reese had to replace Aaron Ross after he bolted for Jacksonville during free agency, and the Giants got a real steal with Hosley.

Hosley had 12 interceptions during his college career and is a natural ballhawking cornerback. He is at best in a zone defense where he can read and react. Hosley makes great decisions and is an aggressive cornerback who takes a lot of chances, but those chances usually turn into positive plays. Due to his size, larger wide receivers could give him some trouble. Listed at 5'10, 178, he needs to add more weight to his frame in order to hold up to the physical play that he will see in the NFL.

His cover skills and physical ability should make him a very good nickel cornerback early on in his career. The Giants will probably ask Hosley to play in the nickel and dime packages, but could also put him on the field a lot as their third safety, which is something defensive coordinator Perry Fewell loves to do.

There are some character concerns with Hosley though. He failed his drug test at the NFL Combine and it led to him falling out of the second-round. This is a gamble for Jerry Reese, but Hosley has the talent to become a very good cornerback if he stays out of trouble.
