When Tony Romo went down with a bruised throwing hand of the opening minutes of the Dallas Cowboys 20-7 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Christmas Eve, the only other QB on their roster was third-stringer Stephen McGee.

Jon Kitna, the Cowboys second-string QB, is on the injured reserve list with a back injury that may end his career.

However, in a sign that Dallas is confident that Romo will be able to go Sunday, they will not pursue an emergency option at the position this week:

Romo came out of the locker room to watch the rest of the game, suggesting that he would have been able to play if the game had an impact on the Cowboys' playoff chances.

McGee, in his third year out of Texas A&M, performed about as well as could have been expected. The strong-armed 6'3 225 QB completed 24-38 passes for 182 yards and 1 TD.

And while Dallas is signalling their confidence in the two QB's on their roster, it's not like they have many other options in an extremely depleted pool of available QB's, especially since any new signee would have little time to practice or learn the playbook before the biggest game of their season.

It's do or die in Week 17 for the Dallas Cowboys, and all indications are that Tony Romo will be under center when the team takes on the New York Giants with the NFC East division title on the line. Romo, who suffered a bruised throwing hand when he hit the helmet of Philadelphia Eagles DE Jason Babin on a follow through, told reporters after the game on Saturday that he'll "be fine" and will "be alright" for next Sunday's game.

X-rays taken of Romo's hand during Saturday's game came back negative, but beyond that, the severity of Romo's injury is unknown. Romo reportedly wanted back in the game vs. Philly, but he was unable to take a snap or grip the ball, and thus was benched.

Romo also said after the game that despite not needing an MRI on the hand, he's not sure if, or when, he'll return to practice this week.
