Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is sticking with Wade Phillips. For now.

According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Jones said that firing Phillips now would just be a “temporary feel-good move.”

Many fans and pundits have been calling for Jones to make a move midyear following the embarrassing start to the season for the Cowboys. Dallas looked disinterested in Sunday’s home loss against the Jacksonville Jaguars while the Jaguars dismantled them 35-17.

Jones, however, will stick with Phillips through the remainder of this year. Bringing in a new head coach in the middle of the season would be difficult since nobody on the staff is particularly ready for the job. Further, Jones may want to wait until the offseason in attempt to lure in a high profile coach to replace Phillips.

Phillips will have a tough task ahead of him this weekend as the Jon Kitna led Cowboys head into Green Bay to take on the Packers on Sunday night.

Following an embarrassing loss in front of the home crowd in Cowboys Stadium, Jerry Jones is apparently willing to fire head coach Wade Phillips midyear according to the Dallas Morning News.

"I don’t think there is anybody in the world who would doubt that I’m willing to do something hard," Jerry said. "I’m willing to do something that doesn’t feel good to me."

This contradicts earlier sentiment this year from Jones that he would not fire Wade Phillips midyear. Even before the injury to quarterback Tony Romo, the Cowboys were playing uninspiring football while looking hapless and undisciplined. Dallas has committed 54 offensive penalties this year, the sixth highest amount of any team in the NFL.

The embarrassing loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars might be the last straw for Jones. Dallas was never in the game in the second half, allowing two touchdowns early in the third quarter as the Jaguars extended their lead to 28-3.

Phillips, a defensive minded coach, had his Cowboys defense allow David Garrard to pass for 260 yards and four touchdowns - just as many incompletions as he threw, completing 17 of 21 passes. Jacksonville is the 28th best passing team in the league.

If Jones does fire Phillips, his candidates for the head coaching position will likely be in-house and on an interim basis.
