Dallas Stars News: Derek Roy Undergoes Shoulder Surgery

When the Dallas Stars traded Steve Ott and Adam Pardy for Derek Roy, I doubt this is the kind of news they wanted to hear. Less than two weeks after acquiring the center from Buffalo, Roy has gone under the knife, undergoing surgery to fix his ailing shoulder.

Roy filled a team need as a top six center, but unfortunately for the Stars, Roy will be out until at least early November.

Roy had a disappointing year in 2011-12, and will be looking to rebound before he hits the free agent market next summer. This certainly isn't a step in the right direction, but, it's far better to get any surgical procedure out of the way in the offseason, rather than letting an injury linger on into the season, when Roy could worsen the condition.
