With the 2012 draft in the rearview, the focus turns to free agency, which begins on July 1.
The top man on the market is New Jersey Devils winger Zach Parise, and he'll be courted by many top teams. Could he end up in Dallas?
Dallas Morning News writer Mike Heika gave his free agency thoughts in a live chat on Tuesday. Heika thinks the Stars wouldn't be out of line offering a huge contract to Parise. He cited that no one on the Stars is making huge money, and there still would be room for more pieces. But it's going to be hard.
As for some other names?
After (Parise), I think they seriously consider players like Olli Jokinen, Matt Carle, Dennis Wideman and maybe (Jason) Garrison. I just don't see (Alexander) Semin as a fit.
I think they are looking for shorter-term deals that allow a bigger purchase when the kids are more mature (sort of like the NY Rangers have done).
If Shane Doan doesn't sign in Phoenix, I think he could definitely be someone they talk to. He's old, but I think they would definitely consider him.
