The good folks over at Defending Big D, SB Nation's Dallas Stars blog, posted their third mock draft on Wednesday afternoon. In the latest and greatest version, the Stars are pegged to take Latvian forward Zemgus Girgensons.
The Stars decide to pick up centre Zemgus Girgensons a big Latvian forward that has divided scouts. Some think he could be a top line centre, others say he will be a third line centre. The Stars decide to take that risk to help build up their weakness up the middle.
Recent mock drafts have had the Stars selecting Morgan Rielly, Olli Maatta and Brendan Gaunce. In the latest mock at Defending Big D, Rielly goes No. 4 overall to the New York Islanders, while Maatta slides to the Chicago Blackhawks at No. 18 overall. Gaunce goes one pick before Maatta, at No. 17 overall, to the San Jose Sharks.
We'll see who the Stars take with the No. 13 pick on Friday, June 22 when the NHL Entry Draft gets underway.
