The Dallas Stars and San Jose Sharks play in a division matchup with all kinds of playoff implications on Tuesday as the teams approach the end of the NHL regular season schedule.
Four teams in the Western Conference's Pacific Division are separated by four points, with the Sharks barely holding down the eighth and final playoff spot in the west. At least one team among Los Angeles Kings, Phoenix Coyotes, San Jose and Dallas will be left out of the postseason.
When it comes to San Jose (90 points) and Dallas (89 points), just one point separates the two teams and who will hold down that last playoff position. The Stars control their own destiny when it comes to the playoffs, while at the same time having a say in whether or nor the Sharks make it.
With two games remaining for both teams following Tuesday's contest, a win in regulation is key because it would propel the Stars to a one-point lead over the Sharks, and for San Jose, it would put the team ahead of Dallas by three points.
