Vancouver put in the kill shot with an Alex Burrows goal. Henrik Sedin got his third assist of the game through a great display of patience. He started out with the puck behind the net and ended up all the way out at the blue line. He threaded a pass to Burrows, who was right in front of the net, for an easy goal. Alex Goligoski had lost him and Burrows was wide open.
Kari Lehtonen was pulled for the rest of the game to get him some rest and Richard Bachman got put in.
Bachman got a rude welcoming as Maxim Lapierre scored the Canucks fifth goal just a minute after Bachman entered. Defenders let him skate free into the slot with the puck and he fired one by Bachman's glove hand.
The biggest news and only good news for the Stars in this period was that Reilly Smith got moved up to Jamie Benn's line and immediately made some plays. He hit the post and put some good pressure on net. He showed some good play and hopefully sticks with Benn the rest of the season.
Jake Dowell got a late goal in the period when he beat Schneider glove side.. It's only his second goal of the season.
It wasn't like the Stars were just thoroughly outplayed in this game. Cory Schneider was just amazing through the first two periods and the Stars just couldn't hang with the talent level of the Canucks. They had a lot of chances to score some more goals but just couldn't beat the Canucks goaltender.
Dallas plays their biggest most important game of the season tomorrow against the San Jose Sharks. A loss could drop them out of the playoffs.
