Its a great time to be a professional sports fan in the city of Dallas. First the Mavericks win the NBA Finals, then the Rangers make another run at World Series and now the Dallas Stars were the first team in the NHL to 10 wins and lead the Pacific Division. Could the Stars be considered one of the best teams in the NHL?
ESPN's Pierre LeBrun says they're almost there, as the Stars sit at No. 2 in this week's Power Rankings.
Of course with any team that comes out of the gate as strong as the Stars have, there's ultimately a time where the upstarts must prove themselves. That time has come Glen Gulutzan's squad, as upcoming clashes versus the 9-3 Washington Capitals, the 9-3 Pittsburgh Penguins and the 6-5 Detroit Wings all await the Stars this week.
That means plenty of Alex Ovechkin, Sidney Crosby and Nicklas Lindstrom for the Stars defense to deal with. However, the Stars have arguably the hottest goalie in the NHL in Kari Lehtonen, as the Helsinki product is 10-1 on the season with a 2.14 GAA. They'll need him to stay hot for the Stars to keep their torrid pace up.
