Tom Gaglardi Approved As New Stars Owner

The Tom Hicks nightmare is finally over for Dallas Stars fans. Fifteen months after the Texas Rangers removed Hicks the Stars have officially turned the page, as a Delaware bankruptcy court approved the prepackaged plan Friday morning. Tom Gaglardi takes over a franchise that has lost over $90 million over the past three seasons but has the potential to turn things around quickly just as the Rangers did once their incapacitated owner was permanently detached.

Gaglardi has numerous area ties and has already named former team president Jim Lites to his former post. Lites was a part of the team that built the Stars into a powerhouse and made them just the second modern pro franchise to win a championship.

For much more on this story, including Gaglardi’s comments, Lites’ comments, Steve Ott’s comments, and analysis from Brad Gardner, check out SB Nation’s Dallas Stars blog, Defending Big D.

Oh, and by the way, the Stars take on the Colorado Avalanche at 8:00 CT. That game can be seen on Fox Sports Southwest.
