The Dallas Stars had a great week by going 4-1 and are 5-1 overall and made a big jump from the preseason rankings. Dallas' lone loss came on the road and by hands of the Chicago Blackhawks 5-2.
Scott Burnside of ESPN.com moved the Stars up six spots from No. 14 to No. 8:
The Stars continue to surprise with three straight wins. Goalie Kari Lehtonen has been spectacular, leading the league with four wins and a .955 save percentage. There has been a lot of offense from the blue line and nice balance up front. What's not to like in Big D other than wanting a new owner?
Fox Sports West Jon Rosen has the Stars on the low end at No. 17 which is three spots higher. Also, Rosen uses a theme to discuss his rankings and this week it is "The Simpsons":
"I was born a snake handler, and I'll die a snake handler." (Moe) - The physical Stars aren't afraid to get their hands dirty, sitting near the top of the league in hits and penalty minutes.
Adam Gretz of CBS Sports Eye on Hockey blog gives the Stars the biggest jump with 12 spots putting the Stars at No. 6:
The problem with Kari Lehtonen has always been his ability (or inability) to stay healthy. He has been outstanding for the Stars so far and they've yet to allow more than two goals with him in the lineup.
It is still very early so expect things to fluctuate for a few weeks before it is known for how good these teams really are.
