The Dallas Stars find themselves tied atop the Western Conference after their first road win, a 3-2 thriller that saw four third period goals. With just one point on the season, the Blue Jackets took the play to Dallas and outshot them 40-18 overall. Dallas found offense when they needed it, though, leading after two on a Steve Ott goal, and just hanging on thanks to their two third period tallies.
Jamie Benn danced through four Blue Jackets defenders early in the period and banged his shot home off of the crossbar, then five minutes later Michael Ryder tipped in a Sheldon Souray shot from the point. It was Souray’s fourth assist in six games – all on shots – to go with a goal in his bounceback season.
Kari Lehtonen was once again stellar while facing a heavy load of shots, stopping 38 and carrying his team to another win in a game where they were badly outshot.
Dallas’ ten points tie them with Colorado, who has also played six games. Washington and Pittsburgh lead the East, also with ten points.
