Stars Fall To Rangers In Shootout

(Sports Network) – Rookie Mats Zuccarello scored the lone goal in the shootout, as the New York Rangers came from behind to beat the Dallas Stars, 3-2, at American Airlines Center.

Zuccarello slowed down as he skated towards Kari Lehtonen and beat the Dallas goaltender on the forehand. New York netminder Henrik Lundqvist turned away the Stars’ trio of Jamie Benn, Brad Richards and Mike Ribeiro.

Artem Anisimov scored a power-play goal to pull the Rangers even at the 8:04 mark of the third period. Lundqvist made 28 saves for New York, which has won four of its last six games.

The Rangers were embarrassed 10-2 in their last trip to Dallas on February 6, 2009.

Ribeiro and Brian Sutherby scored in regulation for the Pacific Division- leading Stars, who have lost five straight at home. Lehtonen stopped 29 shots.

With the Rangers down a goal, Anisimov took a pass from Marc Staal and moved into the right circle before whipping a shot past Lehtonen.

Sutherby beat Lundqvist on the short side to put Dallas on the board at 7:55 of the first period.

The Rangers tied the game on Ruslan Fedotenko’s short-handed goal 2:49 into the middle stanza. It was New York’s ninth goal while skating down a man this season. The Rangers entered play leading the league in that category.

Ribeiro netted a power-play goal to give the Stars a 2-1 lead midway through the contest.
