Mark Cuban Says Mavericks Are In 'Better Position' Without Deron Williams

In an interview with ESPN Radio in Dallas on Tuesday morning, Cuban said, "I think we're in better position now than we would have been if we would have gotten (Deron Williams)."

The Mavericks made a pitch to three-time All-Star point guard Deron Williams during free agency with the hopes that he would sign in Dallas. However, after a meeting with the Mavs, Williams instead decided to remain with the Nets and signed a five-year, $98.7 million deal with Brooklyn.

No big deal, says Mavericks owner Mark Cuban. In an interview with ESPN Radio in Dallas on Tuesday morning, Cuban said, "I think we're in better position now than we would have been if we would have gotten (Deron Williams)."

Tim MacMahon of ESPN Dallas called the quote "pure spin" and it's difficult not to agree with MacMahon. Cuban can't possibly believe the Mavs are better off without Williams, otherwise they wouldn't have made a push to sign the point guard.

In June, Christopher Reina of RealGM told Jonathan Tjarks that the Mavericks have no logical Plan B during the 2012 offseason if they miss out on Williams before adding, "Plan B would be for Dallas to preserve their cap space for 2013 with the hopes of making a run at Chris Paul and [Dwight] Howard."
