Deron Williams has reached agreement on a 5 year, $100 million extension with Brooklyn, a league source tells Y! Sports.— Adrian Wojnarowski (@WojYahooNBA) July 3, 2012
The Mavs had been hoping to sign the Dallas native Williams, but couldn't offer the same amount of money. From ESPN.com:
Williams chose the Nets over his hometown Dallas Mavericks, who could only offer four years, $75 million based on the rules outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.
Having missed out on a star player, the Mavs' focus at point guard likely will turn to re-signing Jason Kidd at the moment.
