NBA Free Agency 2012: Jason Terry Finalizing Deal To Go To Celtics, According To Report

It appears as though the Dallas Mavericks may soon be parting ways with one of the most effective bench players in the NBA. Former Sixth Man of the Year Award winner Jason Terry appears to be on the verge of becoming a member of the Boston Celtics.

Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports reports that the Celtics are in final discussions with Terry on a multi-year deal. Spears added that Terry's deal is expected to be for three years and will pay the mid-level exception. The value for a three-year deal of that type would be just under $16 million.

Marc Stein of ESPN clarifies that Terry is expected to give the Mavericks an opportunity to counter the Celtics' offer before he signs.

The 34-year-old guard has been with the Mavericks since 2004 and helped the team win an NBA title in 2011. In the lockout-shortened 2011-12 NBA season, Terry averaged 15.1 points per game and 3.6 assists per game for the Mavs.
