Celtics Tried To Work Out A Sign-And-Trade For Jason Terry

Jason Terry has already agreed to joining the Boston Celtics as a free agent, but the deal is not officially complete since the Celtics have been trying to see if a sign-and-trade can be worked out to acquire Terry from the Dallas Mavericks.

The Celtics want to make this move so that they can use their $5 million mid-level exemption on a different player than Terry, but what the Celtics are offering is not of interest to the Mavericks:

The Mavericks and Celtics did discuss sign-and-trade scenarios to facilitate Terry's move to Boston early in free agency. But Dallas has since made other plans with its cap space, such as Friday's amnesty claim on Elton Brand, and are thus resistant to taking back Keyon Dooling or Sasha Pavlovic in a sign-and-trade, which would be necessary to make such a deal work.

This deal is not likely to happen since the Mavericks have already move on in free agency, and they still have plans to go after other players such as Luis Scola and others. Plus, the Celtics did not want to give up young talent such as JaJuan Johnson or E'Twaun Moore.
