2012 NBA Free Agency: Dallas Mavericks To Use Amnesty Clause On Brendan Haywood

Mark Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks have had a busy Wednesday -- so much so, that they probably can't even enjoy free Slurpee day.

With the Mavericks reportedly set to sign free agent center Chris Kaman, news came out that the Mavericks will use the amnesty clause on Brendan Haywood.

Though it's not a done deal, as it's just one of MacMahon's sources, there's little reason to doubt the report.

Haywood appeared in 54 games for the Mavericks in 2011-12, starting all 54 games. The 7'0" center did not put up good numbers for the then-defending champions, averaging just 5.2 points per game, while grabbing just six rebounds per game.

By using the amnesty clause on Haywood, his salary will not count toward the salary cap or luxury tax for the Mavericks.

Be sure to check back here at SB Nation Dallas for the latest on Haywood and the Mavericks, and be sure to check out Mavs Moneyball for more analysis and discussion.
