Well, it's not quite the big splash that Dallas Mavericks fans were looking for (hi, Deron Williams), but at least it's something. According to ESPN's Marc Stein, the Mavericks are on the verge of signing former All-Star center Chris Kaman to a contract.
Just going up online: Mavs on verge of signing All-Star center Chris Kaman. Deal should be finalized later Wednesday
— Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine) July 11, 2012
Kaman spent the first eight years of his career with the Los Angeles Clippers before headed to New Orleans for the 2011-12 season. Now, Kaman is on the verge of his third team in as many years.
Kaman, who was an All-Star in the 2009-10 season, has seen his production slip each year since. In the 2009-10 season, Kaman averaged 18.5 points per game while grabbing 9.2 rebounds per game. In 2010-11, Kaman was hurt, appearing in just 32 games while starting only 15. As a member of the Hornets, Kaman averaged just 13.1 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.
Per Stein, Kaman is receiving a one-year contract worth $8 million dollars.
There will be some familiarity for the Mavs with Kaman, as both he and Nowitzki have played for the German national team.
