The Dallas Mavericks picked up Jared Cunningham from the Cleveland Cavaliers in a trade on the first day of the 2012 NBA Draft. Cunningham was selected out of Oregon State by the Cavs as the No. 24 overall pick. The Cavs received Tyler Zeller in return. Cunningham is getting off to an inauspicious start with the Mavs, as he is already dealing with an injury.
Mark Followill, the play-by-play TV announcer for the Mavericks, reported on Tuesday that Cunningham has a hamstring issue. According to head coach Rick Carlisle, it is yet to be determined how much he will be able to contribute during summer league play. There is a chance that Cunningham could be shut down altogether over the summer.
Certainly not the news that the Mavs wanted to get about their top draft pick, but it seems to be par for the course with the way the Dallas offseason has been going.
