Dallas Mavericks fans are likely a bit upset at the impending mass exodus of free agents this offseason. Jason Terry is set to sign an offer with the Boston Celtics, although he has wanted to stay in Texas.
Eddie Sefko of the Dallas Morning News reports that the Mavericks were unwilling to offer a third year on a new deal for Terry, so they never made a counter-offer to the Celtics contract.
"I had three teams looking at me and Dallas didn’t come to the table,’’ Terry said. "Had I got the same phone call from Dallas, I’d still be there. But I didn’t.’’
Terry admitted that he is surprised the matching offer never came from the Mavs, but only had nice things to say about the organization.
"I look back and if I never went to Dallas, would I be where I am today? I don’t think so,’’ Terry said. "I had great teammates, a great coach and a great owner. And what the city meant to me was priceless. The fans, without them, I’m nothing. The Jet was born in Dallas and hopefully, when I’m done, I can go back and end my career there.’’
Mavs fans would certainly welcome him back with open arms.
