NBA Rumors 2012: Ian Mahinmi, Mavericks Likely Parting Ways

At least seven teams contacted free agent center Ian Mahinmi when free agency opened Sunday night and he reportedly already has a top three list of potential destinations.

Mahinmi served as a solid back up center option for the Mavericks last season before losing playing time to Brendan Wright towards the end of the season. Rick Carlisle turned to Mahinmi again in the playoffs against the Thunder and he responded averaging 7.3 points and 4.5 rebounds in 17.5 minutes per game.

Dallas has its hands tied from adding salary until they hear from Deron Williams. The Mavericks will need to amnesty either Brendan Haywood or Shawn Marion to get far enough under the cap to offer Williams a max-contract. By the time the Williams situation plays out Mahinmi will probably already have a good offer from another club.
