After all the smoke cleared and the dust settled from the 2012 NBA Draft on Thursday night, most of the hopeful prospects had been given the answer to where they would soon call home.
Unfortunately for Scott Machado of Iona, that isn't the case.
Many experts and mock draft-makers alike thought Machado was a pretty safe bet to be picked in the second round with the idea he would develop over time. However, Machado finds himself as perhaps the highest-ranked undrafted free agent, drawing interest from multiple teams.
Machado is a 6-foot-2, 200 pound point guard who led the nation with 9.9 assists per game last season for the Gaels. He was the main driving force to their NCAA Tournament bid and could be quite a find for a team looking for help.
While the Dallas Mavericks aren't known to have shown interest in Machado, it certainly can't hurt to kick the tires. Jason Kidd appears on the way out of town and although it's very possible Deron Williams will soon replace him, a backup to groom is a painless scenario.
