As part of a draft day deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Dallas Mavericks have taken Oregon State SG Jared Cunningham with the No. 24 overall pick in the first round.
Cunningham slipped under the radar for most of the season, but he is an intriguing talent, although there were players with higher upsides who were still on the board.
As a junior, he averaged 18 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists on 51% shooting. He'll be able to step in immediately and help the Mavericks with his ability to get to the rim and defend on the perimeter.
His ceiling as a player will depend in large part on his ability to consistently knock down 3-point shots (he shot 34% from deep) and make decisions with the ball in his hands (he averaged almost as many turnovers as assists).
