It's so thinly sourced that it's practically non-existent, but the whispers about Steve Nash returning to Dallas have been persistent throughout the off-season.
How this seems to work is that one person "speculates" about where Nash could end up while an "anonymous source" confirms that there is interest between both sides. Of course, this source is very possible a friend or an associate of the writer in the basketball industry who is playing a little connect the dots.
After all, why wouldn't Dallas at least explore the possibility of bringing back the seemingly ageless Nash and why wouldn't Nash want to return to a franchise that built a championship caliber squad only two years ago? That being said, has either really given a strong indication of interest to a source connected to a basketball writer? There's no way to really know.
At the same time, the Mavericks are trying to get younger, and the absence of Tyson Chandler makes playing the defenseless duo of Nash and Nowitzki fairly unpalatable. Meanwhile, Nash could assuredly make much more money staying in Phoenix, and if he really wants a ring, Miami is a far better bet at this point.
Either way, it's a fun bit of speculation, but the only thing we know is that we don't really know. Everything in Dallas waits on Deron Williams' decision, which, one way or the other, will have dramatic effects on everything else the Mavericks do this off-season.
