Dallas Mavericks guard Delonte West had surgery on his right ring finger which was dislocated and fractured when he attempting a steal on Wednesday. The surgery required West to have pins inserted into his finger for stabilization.
With West out that leaves only Jason Kidd as the only true point guard on the roster and puts the Mavericks in a bind until he gets back, whenever that will be. With West out it will give an opportunity to Dominique Jones to have a bigger role in the offense. Jones will take West's spot as Jason Kidd's primary backup and he will see extended minutes as Jason Terry is also out with a hip injury.
There is no timetable for West's return and he will not be able to return to basketball activities until the pins are removed.
