The Dallas Mavericks have been selected to play two preseason games overseas next season. The first location is in Germany and that should not come as a surprise since Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki is from Germany and has played for their national team for several summers including leading them in the 2008 Olympic Games. The other location is in Barcelona, Spain.
Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has never been a huge fan in these international games, but the NBA is not allowing teams to pass on playing overseas. Having the Mavericks play in Europe is to broaden the popularity of the NBA in Europe, and with the Mavericks being the 2011 NBA Champions it raises their profile as well.
The training camp for the Mavericks will open a few days earlier to accommodate for the lengthy trip, and as of now the opponents have not been named. In the past there has been other NBA teams involved as well as playing against a local European club.
