Kobe Bryant injury update: Lakers star may miss Opening Night

The Los Angeles Lakers are keeping quiet on whether Kobe Bryant will start against the Mavericks, and it might not be revealed until game time.

Kobe Bryant's foot injury may keep the L.A. Lakers star out of the team's first regular season game of the season against the Dallas Mavericks. Los Angeles just finished the first-ever winless preseason in franchise history, and Kobe has missed a bunch of practices with his injury.

According to the latest reports on Kobe's injury, it's going to be questionable whether he's going to play right up until game time. He has played through tough injuries before, so it wouldn't be surprising if he showed up even if the foot is still strained and bruised in the pre-game.

L.A. probably won't miss Kobe too much if he's out, as preseason trades made the team one of them most star-studded lineups in the NBA. Steve Nash and Dwight Howard will still put points on the board, though they have seemingly struggled to learn the new offense during the preseason games.

Kobe missing the game against the Mavericks would leave both teams without their brightest stars -- Dirk Nowitzki is expected to miss the first few weeks of the season after getting a procedure done to his knee.
