The Dallas Mavericks defeated the New Orleans Hornets, 87-74, in NBA preseason play on Monday night in Dallas.
New Maverick guard O.J. Mayo scored 13 points in 30 minutes of play to lead Dallas in scoring, as Dallas moved to 3-3 on the preseason with the win. The Mavericks built a 45-29 advantage at halftime and maintained the lead throughout.
Rookie forward Jae Crowder also played 30 minutes, tying for the most for any Maverick, scoring 12 points and adding four rebounds and four assists. Crowder was the 2011-12 Big East Player of the Year.
The story of the night for the Hornets was rookie point guard Austin Rivers, who was carried off the floor after injuring his ankle. Rivers was 0-5 from the floor in 14 minutes before the injury, which is now being described as a sprain "not as bad as [the] landing looked," according to ESPN's Marc Stein.
The Mavericks finish the preseason this week with a game at Oklahoma City on Wednesday and by hosting the Charlotte Bobcats on Friday.
