Expected to be the main distributor this season for head coach Rick Carlisle's offense, Dallas Mavericks point guard Darren Collison wants to take full advantage of building chemistry with his many new teammates this year in training camp.
Collison told Earl K. Sneed of NBA.com after Tuesday's practice that he's extemely glad to have the opportunity to get used to the many varying playing styles of his batch of new teammates.
"The best thing about this whole camp experience is that we get a chance to get used to each other," Collison said Tuesday.
"I think that’s the biggest thing, our chemistry," Collison said. "You know, the talent is there, the experience is there, but we’ve gotta get used to playing with each other."
With a lightning-quick first step and elite court vision on the break, Collison believes that he's destined to flourish in Carlisle's read-and-react offensive set this season. "It’s freelance," Collison said of his coach's offensive style. "That’s the best thing about this team, we have guys that can just play their game. We don’t need to call plays every time down. Guys can make plays."
