Dirk Nowitzki Injury: Mavericks Star Eyeing Sunday Return

Dirk Nowitzki has missed three games and will sit out the Mavericks game Friday night against Utah. The All-Star forward is eyeing a return to the court for Sunday's nationally televised game against the San Antonio Spurs.

Dirk Nowitzki says he's had a good week of work and is shooting to return to the Dallas Mavericks' lineup Sunday...

Nowitzki was originally scheduled to return on Sunday after missing four games with a sore knee and conditioning issues. Mavericks owner Mark Cuban then told ESPN Dallas that it was possible that Nowitzki would be out longer than the originally planned four games. Rick Carlisle was non committal on Thursday when discussing Dirk's status for Sunday's game.

(Mavs coach Rick Carlisle) says Nowitzki has made progress, though Carlisle isn't guaranteeing Nowitzki will play Sunday against San Antonio, the last of four consecutive home games.

The Mavericks are currently 11-8 on the season and in a virtual tie for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
