NBA Trade Deadline: Mavericks Stand Pat

As expected, the Mavericks let the trade deadline pass without making a move today. While their roster lacks a straight replacement for the injured Caron Butler, Donnie Nelson opted to retain his right into the summer and hold out some hope that he could return during the playoffs, rather than use his expiring contract to supplement the rotation. Also as expected, Roddy Beaubois was the most appealing chip on the Dallas roster.

Nelson said the club had talks at some level with nearly every team in th league and second-year guard Rodrigue Beaubois was the most popular prize trying to be had. But, the Mavs were having nothing of it.

"Roddy is a very popular Maverick when it comes to receiving phone calls," Nelson said.

The Mavericks now enter the stretch run with a stable, veteran roster that has only seen Butler injured, Beaubois return from injury, and the addition of Peja Stojakovic as major lineup changes. They are also now certain to enter the offseason and a new collective bargaining arrangement with Butler and Tyson Chandler as key free agents.
