The Carmelo Anthony saga continues to live on.
↵It looked for a bit like Anthony would be traded following the 2011 NBA All-Star Weekend, but alas, Anthony himself expects to be a member of the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday when they take on the Memphis Grizzles.
↵This past weekend was fueled by Anthony rumors. First, it looked as though Anthony was going to be a member of the New Jersey Nets, who apparently had agreed to a trade with the Nuggets for Anthony - contingent on Anthony signing an extension with the team. Anthony reportedly met with Nets owner and Russian mobster Mikhail Prokhorov and other Nets officials, but the Nets were discouraged about the meeting.
↵Of course, New Jersey's main competition all along for Anthony has been the New York Knicks, Anthony's preferred destination. The Knicks have apparently made their final offer to the Nuggets and refuse to add any more to it, leaving the decision solely in Denver's court.
↵Still, with a few days away, it is likely just posturing from Knicks officials. If Denver asks for New York to yield another concession in the trade, I'd be willing to wager that the Knicks just pull the trigger on it and bring Anthony to New York. It's also likely that the Nuggets will hope that a dark horse bidder comes into the picture - like the Mavericks, who were rumored earlier this year and last week - if for nothing else, just to drive the price up.
↵My money is still on Carmelo being a member of the Knicks by the end of the week.
