Shawn Marion contributed 14 points and nine boards while Jason Terry provided 14 points and eight assists for the Mavericks, who have won five in a row and six out of their last seven.
“They’ve got some talented guys that know how to play and can put the ball in the basket,” Mavericks guard Jason Kidd said. “We made them take tough shots and gave up some offensive rebounds that we didn’t want to, but we got some great looks on the offensive end. This is a tough team to play, no matter what they’re record is, they come out and play hard.”
Nick Young and Rashard Lewis each scored 18 points while Andray Blatche chipped in with 16 points and 13 caroms for the Wizards, who are 0-24 away from home this season.
Washington has scored less than 100 points 18 times while allowing 100 points or more in 20 of its road contests.
“I’d say we played hard. Guys fought through adversity,” Wizards head coach Flip Saunders said. “It’s tough when you struggle and put yourselves in a position. Key calls can change the complexion on the game. You’re looking to get a break and there were some obvious ones and you hope to get them. But we didn’t get them.”
Young’s jumper knotted the game at 60 before the Mavs ran off nine of the next 11 points to take a seven-point lead with 3:24 to go in the third quarter. Dallas held a 74-68 advantage moving into the final period.
Dallas opened up a 91-81 lead but a John Wall triple trimmed the margin to 91-86 with 5 1/2 minutes to play.
Two Marion foul shots extended the lead to nine a minute later but the Wizards did not give in, as two Yi Jianlian free throws sliced the deficit to 95-91 with 3:13 remaining.
Nowitzki nailed a fall away jumper a minute later before Kidd drained a left corner trey with 49.8 ticks to go to extend the lead to 100-92 and sew up the victory.
Washington scored the final nine points over a 3 1/2 minute stretch to take a 25-21 lead after the first 12 minutes.
A Lewis triple gave the Wizards a 37-25 edge just over three minutes into the second quarter. Kidd’s triple put the Mavs back in the lead at 48-47 with 32 ticks remaining and two Chandler foul shots with 5.3 seconds left gave the hosts a 50-49 advantage at the intermission.
Nowitzki made 7-of-11 from the floor and all eight of his foul shots…Kidd ended with 11 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds…Dallas made 9-of-22 from three-point territory…Young was only 6-of-20 from the floor while Lewis and Wall were both 7-for-13…Wall finished with 17 points, 10 assists and four rebounds…Yi totaled 14 points and 11 boards…Washington shot only 39.5 percent from the floor (34-of-86).
