Peja Stojakovic A Dallas Maverick?

New, 13 comments

According to Marc Stein, the Dallas Mavericks are the favorite to land free agent Peja Stojakovic.

Stojakovic was bought out by the Toronto Raptors earlier today and wants to sign with a contender. The Dallas Mavericks are reportedly on the top of his list.

The Mavericks, sources say, are considered the favorite to land Stojakovic. They have minutes to offer at small forward and a well-chronicled need for perimeter shooting. And joining the Mavericks would enable Stojakovic to live within short flying distance of his wife and children, who remained in New Orleans after he was dealt to the Raptors.

While Stojakovic isn't the same player he was when he tortured  the Mavericks in his Sacramento days, he's still a capable three point shooter and can help spread the floor. Peja is still shooting around 40% from beyond the arc and the Mavericks definitely have a need for a  reliable three point shooter off the bench.

Stojakovic isn't a sexy addition, but it would a very useful one.

UPDATE:  Stein is now reporting that the Mavericks have reached a verbal agreement with Peja.
