The Dallas Cowboys will be attempting to fill a major hole the defense this week, after safety Barry Church was placed on injured reserve with a ruptured Achilles. Church, who became the starting safety after a strong performance in training camp, is now lost for the season after an encouraging start to the year.
The Cowboys are already dealing with injuries at the position, with Gerald Sensabaugh working through an ankle injury. Sensabaugh missed the Tampa Bay game, and his status for Sunday's tilt against the Bears is unclear.
Coach Jason Garrett also revealed during his press conference on Monday that rookie safety Matt Johnson is still rehabbing a hamstring injury, as well as a recent back injury. Johnson has been inactive for the the first three games of the season, and is likely not close to a return for two to three more weeks.
Receiver Miles Austin had X-rays on his ribs following a long reception, yet returned after the results came back negative. Austin stated after the game that he was fine.
Nose tackle Jay Ratliff and center Phil Costa missed Sunday's game as well, and their status against Chicago will be determined later this week.
