Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones says he does not expect cornerback Mike Jenkins to play in the season opener against the New York Giants.
Jones told KRLD-FM on Friday that the cornerback has not been cleared for practice and still needs to visit Dr. James Andrews next week before he can fully return to the practice field. Jenkins is expected to visit Dr. Andrews early next week, which will likely not be enough time for Jenkins to prepare for the game against the Giants if he is cleared to play.
It's not certain that Jenkins will miss the Giants game but it is a definite possibility, Jones said.
Jason Garrett has not said just how much practice Jenkins would need to play against the Giants, according to ESPN.com
"We have no drop dead-date in particular, but we understand he has to practice before he is ready to play," Garrett said. "We wouldn't put him out there unless he was ready."
The Dallas Cowboys open the season on Wednesday, Sept. 5 in New York.
