Jason Witten Injury: Cowboys TE Has Tuesday Doctor Appointment

Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten is scheduled to meet with a doctor Tuesday to examine his lacerated spleen and remains unable to play at this time, according to a report from The Dallas Morning News' Jon Machota. Witten suffered the injury during the Cowboys preseason game against the Oakland Raiders August 13. P Preliminary reports indicated surgery was not needed, and blood tests have indicated that Witten is slowly improving.

When asked about his status, Witten was equivocal:

"Still, there's a lot of uncertainty out there right now for me," Witten said. "Again, just got to let it heal up. I'm sure we'll evaluate it next week, see where we're at and go from there."

Witten hopes to return in time for the Cowboys' season opener against the New York Giants September 5, but his return at this time is far from certain.
