It hasn't been the best of days for the Dallas Cowboys. After learning that tight end Jason Witten would miss the rest of the preseason with a spleen injury, rookie linebacker Caleb McSurdy tore his Achilles on Wednesday.
It was quickly obvious that something was seriously wrong when he went down during Wednesday's practice, via Nick Eatman of CBSsports.com:
McSurdy suffered the injury during a defensive drill and immediately went to the ground in pain. Defensive coordinator Rob Ryan quickly came over to console the rookie, who was carted off the field and into the locker room.
The torn Achilles could end McSurdy's season before it even begins. The Cowboys lack depth at middle linebacker, with Orie Lemon out with a neck strain and Isaiah Greenhouse's hand injury.
