Jason Witten Injury: Dallas Cowboys Sign TE Harry Flaherty

The Dallas Cowboys have decided to stay in the family in their search of tight end depth, signing Harry Flaherty, the nephew of head coach Jason Garrett, according to Nick Eatman of CBS Sports. Flaherty's services became a necessity after the Cowboys discovered Witten's Week 1 status may be up in the air following a lacerated spleen injury he suffered in Monday's exhibition game.

Flaherty's NFL experience is quite limited, spending time on the New Orleans Saints' practice squad in his only year in the league. While this wont diminish nepotism claims, Flaherty will be working directly along side another one of his uncles John Garrett, who happens to be the tight ends coach for Dallas as well as a fellow Princeton alum.

The Cowboys waived/injured guard/center Bill Nagy in a corresponding move to make room for Flaherty. Nagy was expected to compete for the starting center gig before fracturing his ankle. Dallas now seems to be thin in the middle with their remaining centers Phil Costa (back strain) and Kevin Kowalski (ankle) both nursing injuries of their own.
