Yet another national writer has linked the Dallas Cowboys with Alabama SS Mark Barron, as Sports Illustrated's Peter King put out a mock draft with who he thought each team should take and who he is hearing they will. For Dallas, both answers came up the same:
WILL PICK
Mark Barron, S, Alabama
SHOULD PICK
Mark Barron, S, Alabama
I wouldn't be surprised to see Dallas trade up to make sure it gets Barron, perhaps with Kansas City at 11. The Cowboys have no identity in the secondary. No big-time players either. Barron would immediately boost a unit that's been beaten down-and provide the kind of tackler at safety that the Boys haven't had since Darren Woodson.
Chatter linking Barron to the Cowboys has been growing for weeks, ever since Jason Garrett attended Alabama's Pro Day, which has traditionally been an indicator of where Dallas is leaning in the first round.
He doesn't have the same upside as some of the pass rushers that could be available, but he's widely believed to be an extremely safe pick who would provide needed playmaking ability in the Cowboys secondary, especially with the NFC East becoming increasingly passing-oriented.
