If the franchise tag is placed on Spencer he will earn a guaranteed salary of $8.8 million for the 2012 season. Spencer would be only the third player that the Cowboys have franchised since Jerry Jones became the owner of the Cowboys.
Spencer has been a Cowboy for his entire five-year career and has played in all but four games during his career.
He has 21.5 career sacks and in 2011 Spencer racked up 66 tackles which was one away from his career high to go along with six sacks which matched his career best from 2009.
